Thin Film Innovations for Cleantech

Thin films are a key enabling technology in the technological landscape of the Netherlands, particularly in the Brainport region, with numerous key players and technology leaders actively contributing to its advancement. Join us for the next Campus Technology Seminar, this time discovering the potential of thin-film technology. The event will provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of thin-film technology and explore its potential, emphasizing applications such as energy conversion and storage, chip packaging, integrated photonics, and biomedical applications. Within 3 short presentations, we will dive into cleantech applications and will learn more about thin film solar panels, carbon capture and sALD for more efficient batteries.

The Program:

15:30 Walk-in & Demo’s

16:00 Opening

16:05 Thin film technology: Opportunities in Emerging Markets: Auke Kronemeijer, Research Manager Holst Centre - Thin Film Electronics

16:30  Thin Films in Solar Applications: Creative Thin Film Solar Panel Systems at Building HTC 5 (Sjoerd Veenstra, TNO)

16:40   Direct Air Capture of CO2 (Marco ArtsCarbyon)

16:50   Improved Battery Performance using sALD (Diederick Spee, Kalpana

17:00   Drinks & Demo’s at Foyer

18:00   End

The Talks:

Auke Kronemeijer, Research Manager at Holst Centre - Thin Film Electronics will introduce thin film technologies and will provide an overview over the broad range of applications.

Sjoerd Veenstra, Program Manager Perovskite Solar Cells and Modules at TNO will present the technology behind the creative ivy-shaped thin film solar panel system installed at High Tech Campus Eindhoven.

Marco Arts, Chief Operating Officer at Carbyon, a Dutch Direct Air Capture company, will present about their application of thin film layer technology to efficiently capture CO2 and why this is becoming increasingly important.

Diederick Spee, Founder and CEO of Kalpana Systems  will present ways in which thin film coatings can enhance battery performance and explain how they apply them to flexible substrates, e.g. battery electrodes, in high volumes, using Spatial Atomic Layer Deposition (SALD).

Demos

There will be several demos presenting applications of thin film before and after the talks. The demos will both address cleantech applications but also applications beyond.

Touch Biometrix will present their biometric fingerprint sensor technology and will bring a demonstrator of the world’s largest thin-film transistor based capacitive fingerprint sensor.

SparkNano is a high-tech product company that designs and commercializes Spatial Atomic Layer Deposition tools (S-ALD) redefining nanofabrication on an industrial scale. SparkNano’s Spatial ALD technology enables its customers to deposit thin, functional layers, thereby increasing performance and reducing costs for manufacturing fuel cells, batteries, and solar cells. The product portfolio provides advanced laboratory as well as high-throughput equipment, combined with extensive process and application support.

Demcon TSST is a scientific instrumentation company specialized in custom designed, innovative thin-film deposition equipment with a focus on Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) equipment and complementary components. Our systems are ideally suited and field proven for research on a large variety of materials including complex oxides. We develop systems for small to large area samples and wafer platforms with a focus towards applications. We share knowledge on thin-film growth by organizing courses, providing instructions on the client’s systems and through our international conference contributions.

More demos from HyET Solar and SALD.

Do you want to present your thin film application during this seminar? For selected companies, we offer the opportunity to have a demo at the conference center. To apply for a demo space, please fill in this form or contact Marina Biller.
