Sensor Development Engineer

Job details

Full-time

As a Sensor Development Engineer you take part in the development of the next generation ultra-low-power wireless sensor solutions in the internet of things (IoT) domain, specifically to assess water quality.

What you will do

Your focus will be on the research, development, characterization and deployment of new chemical sensor technologies that are disruptive, either in size, power consumption or selectivity. New sensor technologies are key enablers to realize the full potential of IoT. Early deployments for several water-quality related use cases will test the sensors against real-life requirements at an early stage and as such speed up the sensor development time.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Perform research on new sensor concepts, from literature study to early Proof of Concept towards prototyping.
  • Design test and calibration protocols according to norms and standards.
  • Characterization of chemical sensor prototypes (sensitivity, range, limit of detection, stability and lifetime) and reporting the results.
  • Real-life validation of the prototypes, outside the lab environment in the field and customer location under various circumstances.
  • Feedback the test results in order to optimize and improve the design and manufacturing process of the sensors.
  • Prepare sensor prototypes (assembly, drop-casting of thin sensor membranes)
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of technologies and products in the area of fluidic sensors applications, benchmarking of new sensor development.

What we do for you

By joining the IoT team in Eindhoven, you will be part of a team of disruptive innovators and thinkers. Together, with our Researchers and Engineers, you will work on systems that combine local data with info from the cloud and other sensor networks to create a holistic picture of the world and enable an Intuitive IoT. We drive the Internet of Things (IoT) by developing innovative solutions for massive, heterogeneous sensor networks to connect billions of devices together. Imec is a reference in the design of ultra-low power electronics, low-power algorithms to increase intelligence and data security, and in all aspects of data science.

Who you are

  • You have a M.Sc degree Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a similar relevant technical education.
  • You have a proven can-do attitude; which means taking initiative, pro-actively thinking, a flexible attitude and problem solving on a daily base.
  • You have a proven track record on performing state of the art research.
  • You are entrepreneurial, self-starting and a team-player as well.
  • You have a structured way of working and experience with designing, execution and planning of experiments and the analysis of large datasets.
  • You have knowledge of statistical tools and methods for analyzing results.
  • Experience with water quality assessment techniques is preferred.
  • Knowledge of common (electrochemical) characterization techniques such as impedimetric, potentiostatic and galvanostatic methods is preferred.
  • Knowledge of common sensor read-out electronics, data collection devices and wireless sensor network techniques is preferred.
  • Your communication skills in English (written and spoken) are excellent.
